State Of Decay 2 Skills

Character Skills Overviews

2) Drive to where you can see the plague heart through the window. Exit the vehicle, climb on top, remove your suppressor if needed, and fire controlled bursts through the window and into the plague heart. Tons of plague zombies and a feral or two will respond, but standing on top of your truck.

Every character has five (5) Skills Slots in their Character Menu - the first four being basically universal skills that every character knows - these include:

  1. Cardio -- Physical Fitness and Endurance Skills.
  2. Wits -- Sort of a combination of Common Sense and Common Abilities or Dexterity.
  3. Fighting -- Hand-to-Hand Melee Combat Skills.
  4. Shooting- - Firearms Skills.

Special Skills - Character Skill Slot 5

The fifth Skill Slot is often open for most characters (unassigned) -- though when you create a new save some of the characters will have a Skill in that fifth slot. This is especially true when you opt to do the Tutorial which takes place at the Army Camp, at the very start of a new play-through.

In the majority of saves for new games the fifth slot is occupied via the companion character (rather than the one who you play as - your 'Main' in other words and not the one that ends up getting infected with Blood Plague). You actually get to choose their special skill (the Fifth Skill Slot) which you can alter, as-needed, via the simple act of reloading the menu until you obtain a Skill you desire.

When you start a new game via the Skip Tutorial Button, you actually get to select the fifth skill that ALL THREE of your community members get to start with -- which is one of the bonus elements of choosing that starting method, though the downside to that is that you frequently cannot choose the starting map specifically using that method.

Unlike the Tutorial path -- which is pretty much limited to the small selection of Basic Character Skills that include:

  • Chemistry;
  • Craftsmanship;
  • Gardening;
  • Mechanics .

The above narrow skills set is actually useful in that there are facilities or facilities expansions that require them, so really you are offered useful Skills for sure, but naturally there are other Skills that are also required for some of the facilities and expansions not on the list above.

All is not lost though - those Skills can be acquired via having your characters read Textbooks that you acquire via looting, containers, and trading with the Mysterious Traders.

Locations likely to contain Textbooks include Libraries and Stores, as well as Houses. That noted it should come as no surprise that there are in fact a LOT of other skills -- and when you opt to begin by skipping the Tutorial as we said, you get to choose the Skill for each of the three Community Members. A partial list of available Skills -- of which some are more rare than others -- includes:

  • Acting
  • Business
  • Computers
  • Cooking
  • Driving
  • Excuses
  • Geek Trivia
  • Hairdressing
  • Law
  • Literature
  • Medicine
  • Movie Trvia
  • Music
  • Painting
  • People Skills
  • Political Science
  • Recycling
  • Self-Promotion
  • Sewing
  • Sleep Psychology
  • Soundproofing
  • Sports Trivia
  • TV Trivia
  • Utilities

It's important to remember that the starting Skills - and this is especially true for the Common Set - changes once you max-out the XP for that Skill, whereupon you are presented with a branching tree of related Specialization Skills you will then need to choose from!

Training / Adding via Textbooks

Bear in mind that these books will increase the stat level for a stat you already know - so for example if one of your community has the Medical Skill, and you find a Medical Textbook, having them read that will increase the level of their existing Medical skill and possibly even Level it for you.

For that reason it's generally a well-accepted practice to retain every Textbook you find in containers throughout the world and game play. Just saying..

Common Character Skills

Common Skills are essentially the roots and barrel of the tree, having branching specializations spreading off of them via choices made by the player. We cover the details below. Please note that the basic skills covered herein also all have utility actions you can use to level them -- which is certainly something to consider and to actively work towards!

So let's examine the more Common Skills, shall we?

Skills Textbooks

As previously noted, these Textbooks may be used to increase the training level of their skill / special skill by simply having the character who already possesses said skills read the Textbook while it is in their possession by opening their storage screen and pressing 'X' for them to read and thus, to process, the book.

Reading a Textbook can add from 1-star to as many as 4-stars, the number being solely a function of the RNG (Random Number Generator) that is built into the game code.

State of Decay 2 Skills aren’t made immediately obvious at first, but they’re going to give you chance to hone your character as you make it further into the zombie apocalypse survival game. In this State of Decay 2 Skills guide, we’ll be walking you through how to unlock Specialized Skills, which are buried away and are hidden for at least the first few hours of the game.But if you instead needed a helping hand on anything else to do with the zombie survival game, including a complete beginner’s guide featuring all the tips and tricks you need on both combat and stealth, then make sure to head over to our. State of Decay 2 Skills GuideAll throughout State of Decay 2, the characters you play as will have four major Skills, which are the following:.

Cardio. Wits.

State Of Decay 2 Skills

Fighting. ShootingThese Skills govern different aspects of each and every single character. Your Cardio will govern your stamina, your Wits control how effectively you can loot any item, your Fighting affects how much melee damage you deal, and your Shooting stat controls how much weapon sway your character suffers from when aiming.There’s also a fifth Skill that some characters may or may not have, entirely at random. This includes Skills like Mechanics that gives you a bonus to repairing vehicles, Craftsmanship, Chemistry and Gardening to name but a few. These Skills appear to come entirely at random in State of Decay 2, and there’s often no telling how they completely work.There are seven total levels to each of these Skills, and you’ll be continually levelling up these Skills through fighting and exploring. You’ll level up Cardio as you sprint, Wits as you loot, Fighting as you land melee hits, and Shooting for every bullet that you fire.

State of Decay 2 Specialized SkillsIt may take a while, but you’ll eventually max out one of these Skills, and that’s where Specialized Skills come into play. When a Skill reaches its maximum level of seven, you can Specialize it by choosing one of two new Skills to obtain.
